Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens

Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens is easily one of the most velvety plants we've seen in a while. Ludisia is a type of "Jewel Orchid," a terrestrial orchid grown for its foliage instead of its blooms. This particular variety of Ludisia has dark green leaves (somewhere between chocolate brown and olive green) that shimmer in the light. And with the single stripe down the center of the leaves, it's hard not to stare at these plants for hours!

Ludisia grow from thick subterranean rhizomatous stems, and the actual root system is very small. Because of that, it's important not to let your jewel orchids completely dry out. 

PLANT CARE

• Light: Low to medium indirect light
• Water: Keep growing medium lightly moist at all times
• Considerations: Mist regularly to create a humid environment. Clip flower spikes after blooms fade
